Jan Kubát is a patent attorney with many years’ experience in the field of Industrial Property Rights. His primary areas of specialisation are in the fields of organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and pesticides.

Upon graduation from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague, he worked for several years as a research officer at the Research Institute for Paper and Cellulose. In 1961 he joined the Czech Patent Office as a research worker, where he later carried out the function of chairman of the Appeal Committee. In 1969 he commenced his employment at the Law Office No. 10. There, Mr Kubat worked in the Industrial Property Rights Department. That department specialised in representing foreign applicants for patents, trademarks and inventions before the Industrial Property Office. In 1990 he became a founding member of the Law and Patent Offices of THK. Today he is a partner at THK.

Mr Kubát is a founding member of the Chamber of Patent Attorneys. He later served several terms as a vice-chairman of the chamber. He is also a member of several other professional organizations such as AIPPI, EPI and UNION. He served as president of the Czech national branches of these organisations for more than ten years. Mr Kubát speaks fluent German, English and Russian, as well as his native Czech.
